Telenor Lease Acquisition for Data Centre – Myanmar, Yangon

Client: Telenor

Size: 6,800 sqm land & 2,100 sqm building

  • Telenor required a site in Yangon as part of their network rollout able to accommodate a containerised Data Centre solution as well as a 70 meter tower
  • Telenor needed rapid delivery of the site so that they could be operation in line with the contractual commitments made to the Myanmar government
  • Telenor needed security of tenure meaning that a minimum 15 year term with automatic rights to renew were required

  • Due to the tower, the need to find a site away from power lines and outside the flight path, but in an area where planning permission for a tower could be obtained was key
  • Security, good road access to allow for heavy containers to be delivered, fibre and power were key priorities and had to either be already available or achievable via permit application
  • The agency market is very immature meaning that  base information available before a visit is limited and in addition, long lease terms greater than one year are not typical

  • Source8 were able to use its market knowledge and deploy staff on the ground to gather information and options from local contacts to identify preferred solutions
  • Source8 were able to investigate planning and zoning issues as well as negotiate direct with the landlords and convince them of the benefits of a long term lease whilst reducing costs for the client

Value added

  • Source8 were able to utilise people with multi-disciplinary skills to liaise with all parties, including the Data Centre technicians, suppliers and designers to ensure that all aspects of the requirements were included in the site acquisition process
